Mom knew I was interested in Astronomy as a child, so upon seeing a cartoon called 'Sailor Moon' on the Television, she began taping it for me while I was at school, and that was the end of that. My interest in Anime expanded, though, as my older sister and her friends gained interest in Anime as well. I began watching Anime such as the Slayers, Ranma 1/2 and Fushigi Yuugi on VHS tapes with crappy fuzzy subtitles that one could hardly read.
My first Convention was Sakuracon 2k (age 13), and in the2 weeks before the convention I made what had to be the worst Sailor Chibimoon in the history of EVER. It was made out of satin, felt and satin ribbon, as well as mostly hand sewn because I didn't know how to use a sewing machine and mom was busy helping my sister with her costume, so I had to go that one alone.
I eventually got better at costume making with both the help of my mother and older sister, asking them for help and instruction when I needed it. But with the inset of my mother's joint problems, as well as my moving to another city, I had to learn to go it alone the best I could. Though, I'll still ocassionally ask for help, instruction or ideas from my mother or sister, or I sometimes like to sew/craft with my local friends that cosplay as well.
Because of my love for cosplay hobby and art, I am currenty majoring in Industrial Design with the hopes of becoming a Model Maker or Theatrical Prop and Set/Backdrop designer.
Conventions I've been to and frequent are Sakuracon, Anime North, Anime Expo, and Anime Evolution, as well as the Seattle Gasukan meets. I look forward to attending Kumoricon for the first time this year. Though, due to budget and a desire to get more involved in my field of study, I no longer attend Anime North, as well as Anime Evolution (mostly because of the great amount of disrespect attendees treat the convention grounds with)
